MAINE COON BREED SOCIETY

STANDARD OF POINTS

For some time, the MAINE COON BREED ADVISORY COMMITTEE on behalf of the breeders belonging to the two constituent clubs (ourselves and the Maine Coon Cat Club) have been seeking to alter our registration numbers in order to be able to track the different patterns of tabby cats being bred, registered, and shown under GCCF.

We have now heard that Governing Council have agreed the changes, and that new registrations will start to be issued straight away.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU AS A BREEDER..

When sending in your registrations, it will be helpful if you state whether the kitten is a CLASSIC or MACKEREL pattern. You will find the new numbering for both below. The new system WHICH IS FOR TABBY PATTERNED CATS ONLY is much easier to navigate. If your cat is a CLASSIC it’s number will now be 64.41. Added to this will be various suffixes to denote any colour other than brown – for example, a brown tortie tabby with white will be 64.41ew (e being tortie, and w being white). The old 64.20 and 64.31 will no longer be used.

If you have already sent in a registration application, and have stated whether the kittens are classic or mackerel then you will be issued the new numbering automatically.

If you haven’t stated the pattern, then GCCF will contact you for clarification before issuing the registration certificates.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU AS AN EXHIBITOR UNDER GCCF

When sending in your show entry, use whatever coding appears on your cat’s registration form. Show managers, and judges, will be given information on the changes, and will expect cats exhibiting both old and new numbers to appear in their classes – as both pattern tabbies are entered in the same class, it makes little difference.

CHANGES TO THE LEVEL OF WHITE ALLOWED

With effect from June 1st 2007 the 1/3rd white permissible has been raised to allow for a higher level of white. Van pattern is not allowed.
