COON BREED SOCIETY
GROOMING
Grooming
and Show Preparation
Whilst a Maine Coon
is purported to have
a “self maintaining”
coat it can always
do with a little help
from you, his owner.
Daily grooming allows
you to check for parasites,
remove dead hairs
and keep any knots
at bay. It allows
you to check ears
and eyes. Most importantly
grooming forms part
of your cat’s socialisation
with you.
Guide
to preparing a cat
for showing
|
Give
your cat a good
brush through
to remove all
the dead hair.
Rub Goop into
greasy parts
like behind
ears and on
tail, and place
cat in the bath
- IMPORTANT
! - do not let
the cat lick
the goop ! |
Wet
cat thorougly
with warm water,
preferably using
a shower spray
and make sure
to get the water
right through
the dense coat,
then apply the
first shampoo
and lather well,
rinse all the
soap out thoroughly |
|
|
Apply
a second shampoo,
again lather
up and work
into coat thoroughly,
paying particular
attention to
tail, belly
& ruff.
Rinse thoroughly
using a shower
spray and make
sure to rinse
again until
the coat fels
'squeeky clean'. |
Wrap
the cat in a
warm towel and
rub dry until
most of the
water has gone |
|
|
Get
a new warm towel
and go over
the cat again
rubbing the
coat till almost
dry |
Using
a cool hairdryer
start to blow
dry the cat,
pushing the
coat the wrong
way to lift
it and give
it body, when
half dry use
a brush to
lift the coat
as you dry.
Warning...not
all cats will
tolerate a
hairdryer,
as the noise
frightens
them, so start
from a distance
and gradually
get closer
in and most
will accept
it.
|
|
Once
dry, rub in
some grooming
powder, brush
the coat and
blow dry the
powder out...your
cat will make
any judge pleased
to see the preparation
that you have
put into it
